APPLICATION PROCESS

There are two ways to apply for a Regular or Limited Governmental Notary Commission:  ONLINE or BY MAIL

PLEASE NOTE: A Regular Notary Commission expires after 4 years. If you have previously held a commission you are still required to submit an updated commission application, bond, and payment to renew your commission.

Apply Online

Follow the steps outlined below.

1. Acquire Notary Bond OR Employer Approval Form for Federal, Municipal, or State Employees

Acquire bond or employer approval form before you continue with the online application process. The employer approval form replaces the Notary Bond requirement when applying for a Limited Governmental Commission. A notary bond will be the first form required during the online application process. Please note if you are using our Notary Bond Form, the surety signature MUST be notarized (A NOTARY APPLICANT MAY NOT ACT AS THEIR OWN SURETY). Please see out Notary Bond Information page for information on bonds.

2. Begin Application Process Using myAlaska Account on the Online Notary Database

Once bond is acquired, begin application process using an active myAlaska account on the Online Notary Database. If you do not have an active myAlaska account, you can create one here or use the instructions listed below to apply by mail.

3. Select Commission Type

From the Commission Type dropdown menu, select “Regular” if applying for a Regular Commission. If applying for a Limited Governmental Commission, select the appropriate government entity (Municipal, State, or Federal)

4. Scan and Upload Bond or Employer Approval

Scan and upload Bond or Employer Approval

5. Submit Application

Submit your application and you will receive an automated email from the database with a customized oath of office signature page attached as a PDF file.

6. Print and Sign Oath of Office
Oath of Office signature MUST be notarized. This will serve as your official signature (Sec. 44.50.063).
7. Scan and Upload Signed and Notarized Oath of Office

Return to the Notary Database email that contained the oath and click the link to return to the database and upload your signed and notarized oath of office.
